This is the exact ‘project’ that I was mentioning in the previous posts. October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October is also my birthday. October is just the perfect month to share some love.
In support of the Breast Cancer Foundation, we pledge 50% of total amount collected from the sale of these teeny ninjas (special edition) for the month of October.
The first time I was aware of the Pink Ribbon project was probably the time when I was working in busiest place in town – Orchard. Vendors were giving out pink ribbons; volunteers were selling tiny pink ribbon pins in the effort to raise fund for this charitable cause etc.
It was new to us, some of my male colleagues weren’t comfortable with anything that associate with the word Breast. I was very impressed with one candid volunteer who was trying to educate the general public and heighten the awareness of breast cancer. She said, ‘You know, this is not solely a woman’s disease, even though mostly women are diagnosed with it. This woman could be your wife, your girlfriend, your sister, your aunt, your mother, your grandmother etc…’ Of course, before she could finish the entire course of speech, the male colleague was already a little offended. There and then, I could only think, that woman could be me!
Using Teeny Ninja is a perfect representation for this cause, because of the spirit, will-power, and perseverance of a ninja. When met with such life challenge, we could use some of these qualities to help us tide through some difficult times.
I have made a few colors of the Teeny Ninja because I wish to present a colorful group, signifying various support from all aspects of our life. Support from our friends and family goes a long way when faced with breast cancer, or any chronic disease in that matter.
Breast Cancer is curable when detected early. We ought to do the regular screening and be aware and not ignorant. Awareness opens up options for treatment; while ignorance may fetch a dead corner by the time we discover. I believe we are able to continue to live fully and with colors if we take proactive steps.
I wish to take this opportunity to express my thanks to Ms Grace Ong, of BCF who replied to my email very quickly, so that I could work on the newsletter today and roll it out.
